How NatWest Group Uses Monitor
How NatWest Group Uses Monitor
As one of the UK’s leading retail and commercial banks, NatWest Group sought a solution to make investor analysis and targeting more efficient and impactful. With Monitor, their IR team now identifies more relevant investors and is better prepared for investor meetings.
Moving from static workflows to dynamic targeting
Moving to a modern IR platform has enabled the NatWest IR team to access and analyse shareholder data in one place, making investor analysis and targeting faster, more structured, and more actionable.
“With Monitor, we have been able to identify where the real opportunities for investment are, and the processes we follow to identify target investors are much more efficient. We have direct access to share register data across the market, which is more accurate than other data aggregators we have used in the past. Our management has been delighted with the level of detail we have at our fingertips”.
NatWest utilises many of Monitor’s features, such as comparing owners with peers and accessing AI insights on investor profiles. However, the feature they use most for targeting is the screener, with its various filtering options to narrow the search for suitable investors.
“We use the screener to filter investors by investment style, geography, portfolio characteristics, and more. It has been a great tool to quickly identify potential new investors, understand their positions and activity, and focus our efforts where they can have the most impact”.
Preparing for investor meetings with depth and speed
As Head of Investor Access, Amber Sekhri is responsible for ensuring senior management is equipped with the right background information ahead of investor meetings.
“The better informed our IR team and management can be about the investors we are meeting, the more impactful the meetings can be. Monitor really helps us to find all the insights we need. We can get a clear view of an investor's holdings at fund level, intra-month ownership changes, investment style, and exposure to peers, which makes our briefing more relevant”.
Given the volume of meetings, conferences, and roadshows NatWest conducts throughout the year, preparation is not only about depth, but also about finding key information fast.
“We meet 600-700 investors a year so sometimes it is less about deep analysis and more about quickly accessing the most relevant data. Monitor makes that very efficient, particularly when you want to see how an individual position has changed in the period between your monthly share register analysis”.
The value of high-quality shareholder data
Good IR software is helpful, but the real difference is made by combining a modern platform with high-quality ownership data. NatWest utilises Modular Finance’s Share Register Analysis (SRA), which is continuously updated directly in Monitor.
“We see transactions and ownership changes identified far more frequently than before. The data is updated on an ongoing basis, which means we are alerted to new shareholders and movements in our register much earlier”.
Shareholder data is not only about frequency; it’s also about the granularity of analysis and the comprehensiveness of the information available.
“The value lies in the level of detail. With more shareholders identified, clearer insight into ultimate beneficial owners, and better visibility of movements in both our stock and peers, we can truly understand how our investor base evolves. That helps us prioritise our efforts in a much more structured and informed way”.
